Another sweet activation at SXSW this year was the Los Pollos Hermanos pop-up restaurant. This was a literal recreation of the restaurant from the show and AMC had every detail down to a perfect science from the full menu to the $0.25 coin machine full of bouncy balls kids can buy. The best part of this was that if you made it inside they were serving free samples of Gus's famous curly fries! It was pretty amazing. The best part was on press day when the stars of Better Call Saul Bob Odenkirk and Giancarlo Esposito were in attendance. Giancarlo easily stole the show staying mostly in character as Gus from Breaking Bad and teasing the new season of Better Call Saul and also his new film This Is Your Death (which sounds pretty amazing).
Both spent time with fans taking photos and signing tons of merchandise and answering just about any question you had to ask. It was such a cool place to be and having visited the actual store, Twisters, in New Mexico that Los Pollos Hermanos is based on it was really neat to see it again in downtown Austin. They even brought out Gus's car from the show and a full on Los Pollos Hermanos Sign for the front of the restaurant. It was quite the experience and just proof of how far the networks are willing to go to impress fans and this one definitely had lots of wow factor to it.
