Here ye! Here ye! Houston has a new Broadway production rolling into town called Something Rotten and you are not gonna want to miss it! This delightful tale tells the story of the Bottom Brothers back in Renaissance times who are struggling to create plays on par with everyone's favorite Bard William Shakespeare. After any decent idea escapes them and they lose their funding the eldest Brother Nick (Played by Rob McClure) makes one last desperate attempt to save their show by spending their savings on a soothsayer who can look into the future and tell them what the Shakespeare's biggest play of all time will be so that he can steal the idea for himself.  Of course, fortune telling is not a perfect science and with some unfortunate confusion, the name of Shakespeare's greatest work gets bumbled instead leading Nick to believe that the play Omlet will be the next big thing, instead of Hamlet. With this disastrous show in the works, and Nick's younger brother Nigel (Kyle Nicholas Anderson) falling in love with the daughter of their biggest opposition, things can only take a turn for the hilarious in this big crazy Broadway musical and the audience will reap all the benefits.

The show is a rocking good time with clever numbers and lyrics. The play is just dripping with snark with everything from poking fun at the way Shakespear writes (people don't talk like that) to making fun of the mere concept of musicals as a whole. The show pulls snippets of songs from just about every major musical you can think of from West Side Story to Rent, nothing is left out.  There is absolutely something there for everyone to enjoy. You will not be surprised to find the audience singing and clapping along through many of the numbers during the show and with that kind of enthusiasm it is hard not to get wrapped up in it all.

The cast is also fantastic. McClure as Nick does just as great a job as he did on Broadway. As a matter of fact, there are a number of cast members in this touring show that made their appearance in the final Broadway cast of Something Rotten. Rob McClure, Josh Grisetti, Adam Pascal. Sadly Houston is going to miss the acting delights of Adam Pascal who is on vacation this week from the show. Pascal plays the role of writing bad ass, William Shakespeare, but Houston audiences will get to enjoy Daniel Beeman in the role and he brings some Adam Lambert flare to the role. It is pretty amazing.

Overall, you want to see this show. It is one of the many Broadway shows that brings a lot of fun and over the top flair to the stage and we highly recommend checking it out. It is here in limited run June 6th through June 11th so don't miss it!
